Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Founded January 5, 1911 at Indiana University in Bloomington.

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was founded on January 5, 1911, on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington. Ten young men — later joined by an eleventh — established the organization at a time when Black students at predominantly white universities were routinely excluded from campus life. Their answer was to build something of their own.

The Fraternity’s fundamental purpose is achievement in every field of human endeavor. From its founding, its constitution has never contained any clause excluding men on the basis of color, creed, or national origin.

Today Kappa Alpha Psi comprises more than 700 undergraduate and alumni chapters and over 160,000 members worldwide, sustaining programs in mentorship, scholarship, and community service through the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation.
